What Are Full Mouth Dentures?

Full mouth dentures, also called complete dentures, are custom-made removable prostheses that replace an entire arch of missing teeth. They restore the ability to eat, speak, and smile with confidence, while supporting the facial structure that tooth loss gradually diminishes without replacement.

At Halo 32, every denture is designed with your specific facial features in mind. Tooth shape, shade, size, and gum colour are all selected to complement your face, not adapted from a standard template. The result is a denture that looks natural because it was made to look natural, for you specifically.

Who Should Consider Full Mouth Dentures?

Full mouth dentures are appropriate for patients who have lost all or most of their teeth in one or both arches. You may be a candidate if:

  • You have lost all your teeth in the upper arch, lower arch, or both
  • Your remaining teeth are too compromised to restore, and extraction is recommended
  • You are currently wearing existing dentures that no longer fit well or function reliably
  • Implant-supported solutions are not suitable or not desired at this stage
  • You want to restore chewing function, speech clarity, and facial support

Before recommending conventional dentures, your dentist at Halo 32 will discuss implant-supported alternatives, including implant overdentures and All-on-4, which provide significantly greater stability. If conventional dentures are the most appropriate solution for your situation, we will explain why and what the treatment involves in full.

THE HALO 32 PROCESS

Your Denture Treatment at Halo 32

01

Assessment & Impressions

Your gum tissue, jaw ridge, bite relationship, and facial measurements are assessed carefully. Precise impressions are taken of both arches to capture the exact dimensions of your jaw; this is the foundation for a denture that fits accurately and remains stable during function.

02

Shade & Tooth Selection

Tooth shade, shape, and size are selected with reference to your facial features, skin tone, and, where photographs are available, the appearance of your natural teeth. Gum shade is also considered. The goal is a denture that looks like it belongs on your face.

03

Trial Denture

A wax trial denture is fabricated and fitted before the final denture is made. You wear the trial set and assess the appearance, speech, and comfort, providing feedback before any irreversible materials are used. Adjustments are made at this stage, not after.

04

Final Fitting & Adjustment

The completed denture is fitted and assessed for stability, bite, aesthetics, and comfort. Minor adjustments are made at the fitting appointment and at any follow-up visits. It is normal for a new denture to require one or two adjustments as the gum tissue adapts to the prosthesis.

What Dental Fillings Do for You

Restores the Ability to Eat

Complete tooth loss significantly limits diet and reduces chewing efficiency. A well-fitted denture restores the ability to eat a broad range of foods - not everything, but significantly more than is possible without any replacement.

Restores Speech

Missing teeth, particularly in the front of the mouth, significantly affect speech clarity. A properly fitted full denture restores the oral anatomy that clear speech requires.

Designed to Look Natural

At Halo 32, every denture is designed for the individual. No generic tooth shapes or standard gum shades; the prosthesis is selected and arranged to look like it belongs in your specific face.

Supports Facial Structure

Tooth loss leads to the gradual loss of bone in the jaw and the collapse of facial structure above it, deepening facial folds and altering the profile. A denture supports the lips and cheeks, maintaining facial contour and a more youthful appearance.

What to Expect

New dentures require an adjustment period, typically several weeks, during which speech and eating adapt to the prosthesis. This is entirely normal and resolves with time and practice.

  • First Weeks: Mild soreness on the gum ridge is common as the tissue adapts. Follow-up adjustments address any pressure points.
  • Speech: Some sounds may feel unfamiliar initially. Regular speaking practice accelerates adaptation.
  • Eating: Start with soft foods and progress gradually. Cut food into small pieces. Chew on both sides simultaneously to stabilise the denture.
  • Cleaning: Remove and clean daily with a soft denture brush and denture cleaner. Do not sleep in your dentures.
  • Review: Dentures require periodic relining as the jaw ridge changes shape over time. Regular check-ups allow this to be managed before fit becomes a problem.

Individual Design, Not Off the Shelf

Every denture at Halo 32 is designed from individual measurements, shade selections, and facial assessments. The tooth arrangement and gum shade are chosen specifically for your features; the result looks natural because it was planned to.

Trial Before Final

The wax trial denture allows you to see and assess the proposed result before any permanent materials are used. Adjustments at this stage are straightforward; adjustments after the final denture is made are significantly more limited.

Full Discussion of Alternatives

Before proceeding with conventional dentures, Halo 32 always discusses implant-supported alternatives, implant overdentures, All-on-4, and All-on-6, where they are clinically appropriate. We want you to make an informed decision, not simply default to a denture because it is the most familiar option.

FAQs

How long do dentures last?

A well-made denture typically lasts five to eight years before replacement is needed. Over time, the jaw ridge changes shape as bone resorbs; the denture that fit well initially becomes progressively less stable. Periodic relining extends the functional life of the denture. Regular check-ups allow us to monitor fit and advise on when relining or replacement is appropriate.

At Halo 32, dentures are designed to complement your specific facial features. Tooth shape, size, shade, and arrangement are all selected with your appearance in mind, not applied from a standard template. The wax trial allows you to assess and approve the aesthetics before the final denture is made.

We recommend removing your dentures at night. Continuous wear does not allow the gum tissue to rest and recover, and accelerates the bone resorption beneath the denture. Removing them nightly also allows thorough cleaning of both the denture and the gum tissue.

For most patients, yes, implant-supported solutions provide significantly greater stability, prevent bone loss, and allow a broader diet. Whether implant support is appropriate depends on your bone volume, health, and priorities. At Halo 32, this conversation is part of every denture consultation.
